There are many ways of describing the Church’s mission. In a letter reflecting on the Church at the beginning of the third millennium, Saint John Paul II described it this way:
The Church’s project has its centre in Christ himself,
who is to be known, loved and imitated,
so that in him we may live the life of the Trinity,
and with him transform history until its fulfilment in the heavenly Jerusalem.
(John Paul II, Novo Millennio Ineunte, #29)
Christ-centred— The Christian faith cannot be reduced to a religious practise, to dogma or to a moral system. It is centred on a person, Jesus of Nazareth.
To know, to love, to imitate him— Our mission, then, is to form communities that will help today’s men and women – young and old – to live in relationship with Jesus. We learn to know him by searching the scriptures, we learn to love him in personal and community prayer, we learn to imitate him in our commitment to the justice, peace and joy of the Kingdom.
To live in him the Trinitarian life — A relationship with Jesus plunges us into the heart of the loving mystery that unites him to the Father in the Spirit. In him, we discover that God loves us with unconditional and boundless love. This love gives meaning and purpose to our life, promises forgiveness and healing in the face of failure, brings hope and gives strength in trial.
To transform history with him until its completion—All the Church’s members are called to show forth God’s love for humans by being attentive to others’ pain and misery and going to their rescue. The mission that Jesus entrusts to us is made concrete in our solidarity with all those who live on the peripheries of our society or of our Church and who seek welcome, understanding, comfort and belonging.
The parish, like the whole Church, is missional by nature. It exists to make disciples. Thus, in the Catholic Church, the experience of the parish is reflected in the desire to allow all people to discover Jesus Christ. Parishioners seek to make the Good News known to those who do not know it and to offer the faithful experiences, moments and spaces for sharing the Word, for prayer, sacramental life, fraternity and charity.
The Fabrique is a Corporation. Its aim is to achieve the mission of the Church by providing the human and financial resources of a parish created by the Bishop. The Fabrique Assembly is the board of directors of this corporation. It is made up of 7 to 8 members, it makes legal, financial and administrative decisions according to Quebec civil law and canon law (the law of the Church).
The parish pastoral council is a group of parishioners who, under the presidency of their pastor or the person in charge of the parish, work to promote the pastoral and missionary activity of the faithful. It has an advisory role and seeks to help the parish accomplish its mission in its own context.
The godmother must be baptized, confirmed and 16 years of age or older. It is an adult responsibility, which requires spiritual maturity. The godmother or godfather has a responsibility to ensure that the child receives the Christian education to which the parents have committed themselves at the time of baptism.

You can become a Catholic at any age. You just need to desire it and ask for it by addressing your request to a parish or a Christian you know. Once the request is made, you will be invited to reflect and share with others in order to get prepared for baptism, communion and confirmation.
Being Catholic is a way of being a Christian. But there are other ways of being Christian, other Christian traditions. Today, Christians from different churches pray and reflect together to one day achieve unity. This is called ecumenism (Excerpt from the site LaCroix).
The parish to which you belong is usually the closest to your home, but nothing prevents you from going to another parish. You can easily find your parish by looking at the map of our parishes here.
All certificates for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation or marriage are at the parish where they were celebrated. Please contact the parish where the sacrament took place. If the parish is closed or merged, you can find a list that can help you, here.
